Kash Dummies
What is This?
I really have no idea what this is, but some of you do! So today I’m doing your ideas about Kash Patel, himself a living and breathing cartoon, who offers no end of ironic combinations. Here’s a working sketch. Finish, later.
In an age of declining integrity of legacy news sources, we at Substack have gathered together to enable the voices that make the most sense in our journalistic moment. I have been a working illustrator and cartoonist for over half a century. This is the very first time I have not had to soften my work or delete it because of editorial fear. Thanks to you this work can be brave, at long last. I don’t take this trust lightly. The project here for me is to discuss the most important thing that can be said on any given day. And a big part of this is your ideas, edits, and suggestions. You, collectively, are a great editorial partner. As a result, I feel I am doing better work now than ever. The greatest award I win is the daily knowledge that I have come as close as possible to telling the truth. That is the real Pulitzer Prize, or Oscar that any of us can earn. And we all know when we’ve done that. I don’t think there’s anything else as worth fighting for right now. The truth is under siege from all sides: fascism, corporate censorship, and, perhaps most ominously, AI. We, of course, cannot outspend the oligarchs. But we do outnumber them by many orders of magnitude. So that leaves us many beaches we can fight on. And we are doing it! Ask Elise Stefanik, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and all the other Republicans who can now see the end-times! And there will be no rapture for them! Nor for us, it seems to me. But I think we will have achieved greater knowledge about how to hold onto what’s left of this democracy. And that’s worth all of our trouble. Before leaving Substack today please consider supporting this small operation here. You’ll get the Sunday Funnies, plus the knowledge that this work, which would have no place in mainstream media, has a place in the mailbox of people who care about the same things we do.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Steve.
Here’s This Week, such as it was. More soon!

Another week of very good cartooning, and commenting on what is happening in our nation and the world.
Between Cash Mattel (my first foray into locker room nickname labeling) and Homeland guy Bovino, am I missing a fashion statement with the hair gel? or is it an occupational hazard being in this administration and being in a prostrated position in front of someone who emits various forms of bodily fluids uncontrollably without any regard to fault. Steve, thanks for this year of education...flying off to Canada tomorrow and get laughed at.
