Rebecca Solnit
And us . . . the Sangha.
In this moment of high-alert I am noticing a, perhaps, comforting escape for some into old political calculus by complaining about Democrats. “Who is the leader?”, they ask. I have been arguing the point that Rebecca Solnit makes far more persuasively in this NYT interview. Not only MUST it be us, but it has already been established, from Tesla, to ABC, to Minneapolis, to Avelo Airlines, that we are on the front lines and leading. Whoever runs in 2026 and 2028 will be looking to us for leadership.
This is not to say that I am relaxed about where we are going. We are under assault and are taking terrible casualties. But Mr. Lincoln was right about us. “The mystic chords of memory... will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”
If we stand up every day and non-violently oppose the regime, as we are, we cannot lose.
Please prepare for March 28. (I will be Marshaling in NY.) Volunteer, make signs, bring pots and pans and drums and horns.
Beat them back with a unified resistance now and from now on.
More soon.
Steve
