Lights are flashing and alarms are ringing. Time to connect up. And make plans. Call your reps today. Demand they raise the biggest sink. Keep this govt shut. Boycott, pressure the corps making this coup possible.
Thanks to our friend Laura Conwesser:
Please call your Senators today, tomorrow and every day until there is an agreement to fund the government. If you have a Democratic Senator who voted against the Trump continuing resolution, thank them and remind them that you expect them to stick to their position--no deal until there are meaningful negotiations to reach a compromise that protects Americans’ well-being. Too many Americans are facing major increases in their healthcare costs. If you are represented by Cortez-Masto (NV), Fetterman (PA) or Angus King (ME), let them know how disappointed you are that they voted to approve Trump’s continuing resolution and that you hope they will change their votes going forward. If you have a Republican Senator, tell them that you think it is unconscionable that they won’t even negotiate, that people are suffering because of their misguided fealty to Trump. For those of you on social media, Indivisible is suggesting that you share.
Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have been leading the charge of the late night TV hosts against Trump’s authoritarianism. Jimmy Fallon has said that he will not add his voice. Of course that is completely his right; however, these times call for those who are in a position to use their fame and power to speak out. Indivisible has a campaign to let Fallon know how disappointed we are. If you prefer to do something on your own, you can email him at jimmyfallon@nbc.com or if you are still on X, @jimmyfallon.
U.S government agencies have changed their websites to place blame for the shutdown on the Democrats. This is truly shocking! Please go to this link for the Agriculture Department and leave a comment telling them that, not only is their statement a lie, it is a violation of the Hatch Act and is illegal. The Education Department changed the non-partisan, strictly informational out-of-office replies for employees who have been furloughed to now say, “Unfortunately, Democrat Senators are blocking passage of H.R. 5371 in the Senate which has led to a lapse in appropriations. Due to the lapse in appropriations I am currently in furlough status. I will respond to emails once government functions resume.” Of course, this is after DOGE laid off more than 1400 DOE employees. If you know of anyone who works for the DOE, tell them to report their problem to tips@nbcuni.com.
There are hundreds of horror stories about families being destroyed due to Trump’s and ICE’s cruelty. Most of them are not known to the public, so when a specific story comes to our attention, it is good to take whatever action we can. A husband and wife from Portland OR are both in detention under fictional charges while their children were subjected to traumatic detention and interrogation. Please sign this petition that will be submitted to members of Congress on the family’s behalf. It is being circulated by the National Immigration Law Center, an organization that does fantastic work.
T-Mobile is actively supporting the Trump regime; they are hosting Trump Mobile on their network. If you have a T-Mobile account, please consider switching. There are lots of great deals out there. Even if you are not a T-Mobile customer, let them know that you would not use their service. You can sign a pledge here.
Please keep talking to everyone you know about No Kings Day 2.0 on Saturday October 18. The one in NYC will start at Duffy Square at 11am. To find an event near you, check here. There are thousands of events, so you shouldn’t need to travel to join one.
Fetterman is brain damaged.
Cortez-Masto is in a vulnerable seat.
King coasted to re-election, at 81 is unlikely to run again, and generally does
not vote with MAGA.
Maine Senator
Angus King
(202) 224-5344
Here is how King is spinning his sell-out on his website: King Votes to Block Trump Administration Attempt to Gut the Federal Government and Essential Services.
King Votes with Republicans to Give Trump Administration Free Rein to Continue Gutting the Federal Government and Essential Services.
There, Angus, fixed it for you.
King presents himself as some sort of savior, but he has wasted his opportunity to stand up. By bowing down, King has at best become a talking point for JD Vance et al and at worst an accomplice.
To defend his Yes votes, Angus King makes the same sorry argument as he did when he voted with MAGA in March: Trump will do worse if the government shuts down. In March it was an hypothesis. Now we know that King's prior vote did not mitigate the Trump regime's abuses - it helped accelerate them. Since March, Republicans passed their Big Budget Bill -and the regime continues its antidemocratic and unconstitutional rein of terror, and to engage in spectacular corruption.
A voice in the darkness, to be heard and followed.
