GOPers tried this privatization of Social Security before, I think under Bush II. It was unpopular then and still is.

But now they have full control of two branches of the government (and too much of the third), including the department responsible with administering Social Security. And they (Executive Branch) have been successful in seizing control of the budgetary process.

Unfortunately, a policy doesn't have to be popular anymore to be enacted (as Richard said below).

Yessir, this was a focal point in three calls to legislators earlier today. Quoting myself:

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Breibart News event attendees yesterday that the accounts trump’s disastrous Big Ugly bill establish could be “a backdoor to privatizing Social Security.” Here’s my view on that: No. George W. Bush tried this and it went down in flames, for good reason. We the People don’t need corporate meddling and profiting from a program that works. So no. Privatizing Social Security is unacceptable.

Great drawing, Steve. Social Security must never, ever be privatized. The money that we receive is OUR money, a form of forced savings to benefit us after our working years. I loath the idea of some private corporation sticking their grubby hands into MY savings and deciding how much of it they are going to return to me, if any. The idea of privatizing Social Security is just as obscene as carving Trump’s ugly puss on Mount Rushmore.

Great cartoon. The reason we should get them! Out of the GOVERNMENT! Now! Not Later! All ideas accepted!

Excellent cartoon combining two critical issues.

Pulling people out of vehicles through broken windows is the worst. I guess that their orders are: get as many bodies as possible; be as brutal as you want to be (it's not as if any of these "people" actually matter).

Destroying the social safety net has been a GOP goal since the programs were established.

Although I clicked the heart, I don't like this at all. (I'm terrified even though I am privileged.) I'm just agreeing with you. Well said,

Perfect illustration of the back door politics going on here!

As I was reading this today, “Trump Accounts are an additive government program that work in conjunction with Social Security to broaden and increase the savings and wealth of Americans,” I kept thinking that they're not saying who really stands to see the benefit here--Wall Street, for example!

This is getting worse and turning towards worst. Is there no way at all to stop your poor country from becoming a total dictatorship?
